Democrats Launch ’Anti-Crypto Corruption Week’ to Counter GOP-Led Crypto Legislation

US Democratic lawmakers, spearheaded by House members Maxine Waters and Stephen Lynch, declared July 15-19 as "Anti-Crypto Corruption Week." The initiative seeks to rally opposition against a suite of pro-crypto bills advancing in Congress, including the GENIUS Act, CLARITY Act, and a measure blocking central bank digital currency (CBDC) development. The MOVE coincides with a Republican-led "Crypto Week" aimed at finalizing these proposals.

Waters and Lynch framed the GOP bills as a potential enabler of fraud, citing ties between the crypto industry and former President Donald Trump. "These proposals strip away consumer protections and national security safeguards while benefiting bad actors," Waters asserted. The clash highlights deepening partisan divisions over crypto regulation as Washington debates its role in shaping the sector's future.
